Clinical research nursing focus on research implementation and the care of subjects participating in clinical research. In addition to providing and coordinating clinical care, clinical research nurses have a central role in safeguarding participant safety, on-going maintenance of informed consent, reliability of protocol implementation, accuracy of data collection, data recording, and follow-up. Care received by research participants is driven by study necessities and the collection of research data, as well as by clinical indications. Clinical research nurses must constantly balance the necessities for protocol integrity and data quality with the clinical needs, comfort, and safety of research participants.
